Two Ministers to appear before house to answer questions

Two ministers are expected to appear before Parliament this week to answer three questions. They are the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Mr Clement Kofi Humado, and the Minister of Health, Ms Sherry Ayittey.

The Deputy Majority Leader and MP for Ashaiman, Mr Alfred Kwame Agbesi, announced this on Friday when he presented the business statement for this week.

Tomorrow, the MP for Ho West, Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, is expected to ask the health minister measures the ministry has put in place to convert the Ho Regional Hospital into a teaching hospital for the University of Health and Allied Sciences.

The MP for Twifo Atti Morkwa, Mr Samuel Ato Amoah, will also ask the health minister when the Praso District Hospital Project will commence operations.

On Wednesday, the MP for Kintampo North, Mr Stephen Kunsu, will revisit his question about the status of the New Longoro Irrigation Project.

Even though the question was scheduled for Tuesday last week ,the Minister of Food and Agriculture was not in the House to answer it.

All members of the House are expected to attend a day’s pre-budget workshop today, Monday, November 4, 2014, in the Chamber of Parliament. It will be attended by the Minister of Finance, Mr Seth Terkper who will provide pertinent information which would guide them in the consideration of the budget after its presentation to the House.

Meanwhile, the Government has signed a contract with Messrs Societe d’ Equipment et Construction (SOECO) to upgrade a section of the main carriage-way through the Kintampo town in the Brong Ahafo Region to a dual carriage- way.

The contract also includes the upgrade of five kilometres of some selected roads in the Kintampo town and the reconstruction of the remaining 680 metres stretch of road in the Techiman town, which links the Techiman-Kintampo road to the Techiman-Wenchi Road.

The Minister of road and Highways, Alhaji Amin Sulemana, who announced this in Parliament on Friday, said the government would finance the project and provision had been made in the 2013 budget for the execution of the work.

The Member of Parliament for Kintampo North, Mr Stephen Kunsu, who posed the question, wanted to know when work on the proposed project would commence.

Kintampo, located at the centre of the country, is a major transit point and serves as rest stop for most vehicles using the Accra-Paga corridor, with the attendant commercial activities.

That always leads to traffic congestion and undue delay along the corridor.

The project would, therefore, remove the bottlenecks in traffic flow through Kintampo and also enhance road safety along the corridor.

Alhaji Sulemana said currently, the contractor was waiting for the issuance of specific warrant, that is, commencement certificate, to enable him to more to site and commence work.

He added that routine maintenance works would, however, be carried out on the sections until the start of project.
