Actress Yvonne Nelson has taken to her twitter handle to call on President John Mahama to find a solution to the worsening plight of Ghanaians.

“Mr President. Ghanaians are suffering. The people of Ghana are SUFFERING. #fuel #electricity #water pls do something! Thanks,” the celebrated actress told the President via his twitter handle @JDMahama last Friday afternoon. She added: “God save us!!! Help our land.”

Yvonne’s complaints have been met with mixed reactions, though the President has personally not responded to her tweet.

Chief Executive of Movie Africa Productions, Socrates Sarfo, speaking on Peace FM’s Entertainment Review last Saturday, commended the actress for her comments.

“I want to congratulate Yvonne Nelson for the courage she gathered to put such a message of the current economic situation in Ghana and how Ghanaians are feeling across in a very harmless way,” he said and continued, “If everyone is complaining about the current hardship in this country, why are people trying to pick on Yvonne Nelson about her comments…Everyone is complaining in this country. Even the president realized that things are tough and said things are in the first gear.”

However, commenting on Yvonne’s tweet, actor Prince David Osei was reported to have also commended the actress, but explained the harsh economic times as a global rather than national crisis.

Prince explained: “It’s good she tweeted that, which other ways, it’s bringing some kind of awareness and letting the president know that people like us also care about how the country goes…. I think it’s a global thing because the American government is even going down, so generally it’s not about [President] Mahama but he just got into office and as he rightly said the other time on TV, when you start a car, you move to the first gear, you move to the second, it then accelerates further. So I think Mahama is in the right direction.

“Rome was not built in a day. I believe we all need to sacrifice and endure for some time and hopefully next year will be very great. It’s not wrong that she’s shown concern that Ghanaians are suffering. Literally we are suffering with the frustration of fuel prices, electricity tariffs being increased by almost 80 percent, it’s not been easy for the layman but all the same, it’s a global thing.”
