Appiah-Ofori: I am very disappointed in Nunoo-Mensah

Paul Collins Appiah Ofori

Former Member of Parliament for Asikuma-Odobeng-Brakwa Constituency in the Central Region, Paul Collins Appiah-Ofori has said, despite being a very close pal to the National Security Advisor, his recent attack on Ghanaian workers was ill-fated.

Brigadier-General Nunoo-Mensah (rtd) has come under heavy criticism when he said at the inauguration of a nine-unit classroom block for O’Reilly Senior High School which he financed that the government should no longer tolerate the phenomenon of workers laying down their tools every now and then, instead of using dialogue to resolve their grievances.

According to him, ceaseless strikes and demonstrations that have submerged the country in recent times by workers are are been orchestrated by the New Patriotic party (NPP).

Adding, “If anybody goes on strike, he should not be paid. If you cannot sacrifice for the country the way some of us have done, then get out of the country”.

Brigadier-General Nunoo-Mensah in an interview with BBC Africa says he will not apologise for comments he made to the effect that public workers who are not ready to sacrifice and work should vacate the country.

Speaking to Asempa FM on Tuesday, outspoken PC Appiah-Ofori expressed shocked in the way and manner his “best friend” Nunoo-Mensah attacked public workers.

“He (Nunoo-Mensah) did not speak well at all. He is my very good friend and I never thought he would have said such a thing. Every work in Ghana, there is an agreement between the employer and the workers. If the employers breach the contract, workers will surely demonstrate. No worker will go on strike or demonstrate without any reason.

“…If government fulfill its promises to workers, this strikes and demonstrations will cease. If he is saying the NPP is behind the various strikes, it’s unfortunate. During President Kufour’s era when public workers were going on strikes, was the NDC behind those strikes?” he questioned.
