Wenchi Krontihene not destooled

Wenchi Krontihene not destooled

Nana Okyere Benneh, the Abusuapanyin of the Wenchi Krontire Division, has stated that the entire family of Krontire Division of Wenchi are disturbed by the various publications that have been authored by individuals about the so-called destoolment of the Krontihene and Krontihemaa.

The Abusuapanyin said this during an interview with DAILY GUIDE to clear the air about the purported destoolment of the Krontihene of the Wenchi Traditional Area, Nana Owusu-Ansah Kokroko II and his Krontihemaa, Nana Akyaa Drowaah, which had been illegally published without legitimacy and authority of the family.

Not long ago, some disgruntled elements within the Krontire Division aligned to the Wenchi Queen mother, Nana Atoaa Sraman Gyedua II with regards to the Wenchi Chieftaincy dispute matter currently pending before the court claimed they had destooled the Krontihene and replaced him with another king.

According to the Wenchi Krontire Abusuapanyin, the people involved deliberately and in an unauthorized manner chose to capitalize on the disaffection and confusion in the family to carry out their publications.

“I am here to tell the whole world that Nana Owusu-Ansah Kokroko II, Wenchi Krontihene and Nana Akyaa Drowaah, Wenchi Krontihemaa

We as the kingmakers of the Krontire Division made up of the Asuanohene, the Buokuhene, the Abotareyehene and the Abofohene and their respective queen mothers have never on any occasion made any attempt at destooling the Krontihene and Krontihemaa of Wenchi,” the Abusuapanyin stated.

He on behalf of the kingmakers of the Krontire Division appealed to all disgruntled elements in the family to find their ways to him for their grievances, if any, to be addressed to ensure lasting peace in the family.

“The family would like to remind all such elements of the penal consequences of their illegal and unconstitutional actions. In the interest of peace, the disgruntled elements who have attempted to destool the Krontihene and Krontihemaa must be mindful of the provisions of the Chieftaincy Act,” the Abusuapanyin pointed out.

Meanwhile, Nana Owusu-Ansah Kokroko II and Nana Akyaa Drowaah had assured the public especially natives and residents of Wenchi that they are still the occupants of the Wenchi Krontire Stool.

“I shall continue to discharge my traditional functions, and I shall protect my family against any form of intimidation or usurpation and any illegitimate group of persons,” he stated.

Nana Owusu-Ansah Kokroko expressed regret that some elements within his family who had identified themselves with the opposite side of the Wenchi chieftaincy dispute had also chosen to discredit him, and that of the Krontihemaa.

“No chief gets destooled in such an unceremonial and illegitimate manner as they purport to say. I know my legal rights and I could have taken them to court but I am mindful that we are one family.

I am also mindful of the fact that as at now, Wenchi does not have a Paramount Chief nor a Judicial Committee that can address chieftaincy crisis,” the Krontihene mentioned.

He indicated that Wenchi Traditional Council currently has only four divisional chiefs that are registered who do not compose a quorum of the entire traditional authority.

“It is a fact that the people who are aggrieved in my family are people who have been influenced by the respondents and their supporters in a matter involving me as a plaintiff in the High Court.

“I am pleading with the people of Wenchi and our well-wishers to remain calm for the law court to dispose of all the pending chieftaincy issues of Wenchi,” Nana Owusu-Ansah Kokroko said.

The Wenchi Krontihene and the Queen mother of Wenchi, Nana Atoaa Sraman Gyedua had been engaged in a legal tussle over who should become the next Wenchi Paramount Chief.

In the course of the legal tussle, the Queen mother had installed her son, Prof Albert Owusu Sarpong, former Ghana Ambassador to France as the new Wenchi Paramount Chief under the stool name Nana Anye Amoampong Tabrako I, which attracted a contempt writ also pending before the court.
