Nii Amasah Namoale: Pardon Nunoo-Mensah for the slip

Nii Amasah Namoale: Pardon Nunoo-Mensah for the slip

Hon. Nii Amasah Namoale

Can an unrepentant man be forgiven? Acts 3:19 of the Holy Bible states that “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord”.

National Security Advisor, Brigadier-General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah incurred the wrath of Ghanaian workers when he asked striking workers to stop complaining about their salaries or leave the country if they so desire. He also suggested that the salaries of these striking workers be suspended. To him, the seeming indiscipline within unions was not helping Ghana’s development.

“…Ghana is not a police state. Take your passports and get out of this country and don’t destroy the country for us; if you can’t sacrifice like what some of us have done, then get out. If the Kitchen is too hot for you, get out,’ he said during the commissioning of a nine-unit classroom block for students of O’reilly Senior High School.

His comments have generated massive backlash from the public, political parties and organized labour with some calling for his dismissal.

But the retired army officer says he stands by his comments and owes nobody an apology for his recent comments against strikes by Labour Unions .

In spite of this, a Member of Parliament (MP) wants Ghanaians to find space in their hearts to forgive Brigadier General Nunoo-Mensah (RTD).

Hon. Nii Amasah Namoale, MP for Dadekotopon Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, believes though the retired army chief must be pardoned for the slip, some of the things he said needs to be taken into consideration.

“…What he really said was that, we should sacrifice and be patriotic enough in the service to mother Ghana,” he stated.
