Customers ransack StarPlus Microfinance

Some frustrated customers infront of the microfinance office. INSET: One customer taking away a chair from the microfinance office

Some irate customers of StarPlus Microfinance in Sunyani, on Monday October 21, 2013, invaded the premises of the company and took away furniture, generators, computers and other equipment.

According to the customers, the financial institution had refused to give them their savings for two weeks.

They therefore believed officials of the microfinance company had absconded with their money.

One customer, Daniel Adjei, who spoke to DAILY GUIDE, said they had been visiting the offices of the company for the past one month to withdraw money, but their request had always been rejected because the company claimed to be having network problems.

He said when they got there on Monday to withdraw money the microfinance company had been closed. He added that after enquiries they were told officials of the company were nowhere to be found.

This, he said, infuriated some of the customers, who took the law into their own hands and invaded the premises, taking anything they could lay their hands on.

A lady in tears said she had saved all her money with the financial institution and therefore called on the security agencies to fish out the officials of the company so they could get their money back.

As at the time of filling this report, there was no official of StarPlus in sight to comment on the issue, while some of the customers were still at the premises crying over money they believed had been stolen.
