Eight Ashaiman top armed robbers arrested

The top Ashaiman armed robbers


Eight persons who were identified to be members of a top armed robbery syndicate in the Ashaiman Municipality are behind bars for engaging in numerous robbery activities in the area and its surrounding communities.


The culprits, all residents of Ashaiman, had been on police wanted list for over six months. They were Nathan Baido alias Kingkong, 26, Daniel Mensah aka Waskolo, 28, Yaw Doudo aka Boosu, 21.


The others were identified as Waliku Zakariah also called Wazir, 22, Emmanuel Ofori, 28, Goerge Brenya aka Manso, 30, Kwaku Isaac, 24 and Ernest Nyadzi alias Morele, 30.


The suspects, on June 30, 2013 at about 11:00pm stormed a house at Zenu near Community 22 Annex and succeeded in robbing a family at gunpoint.


They allegedly made away with eight mobile phones, a laptop, two desktop computers, ipad, two DSTV decoders and jewelleries.


Again, on September 12, 2013 at about 1:00am, the said armed robbers attacked a foreign national and his family at Ashaiman Lebanon near Pink Lady, where they succeeded in grabbing CFA10million, two laptops and seven mobile phones and left two of their victims with gunshot wounds.


Chief Superintendent David Eklu, Ashaiman Divisional Police Commander told DAILY GUIDE that complaints about the two robbery incidents were lodged at the Ashaiman Lebanon Police Station and investigation into the matter commenced.


According to him, during investigations, police noticed that the robberies were committed by the same gang and upon a tip-off, suspect Nathan was picked by the police.


He said a search on Nathan revealed a mobile phone which was later identified by one of the robbery victims, adding that further investigations led to the arrest of some of the members of the gang.


The Ashaiman Divisional Police Commander noted that George and Kwaku, both members of the gang were arrested by the Oda Divisional Police from their hideout at Akyem Akroso near Oda, where they were enjoying their booty.


Chief Superintendent Eklu revealed that the Ashaiman Divisional Police was leaving no stone unturned to ensure that crime in the Municipality and its environs was brought under control.


He said the public must always assist police with information to arrest and prosecute criminals in order to make their communities safe to live in.
